The printmaking project funded by Valencia City Council and carried out at ‘Casa de Velazquez’, in Madrid (Spain), is part of my series ‘Copper skin’, an autobiographical
series that investigates the way in which the copper metal and its alloys, during their oxidation process, produce a unique green on their surfaces and this results in a form of epidermis of the metal. This has for me a very poetic
connotation, a kind of Phoenix revival: instead of evoking deterioration and decay, rust becomes beauty for the eye as well as being a 'protective' skin for the copper, this metaphor responds
to a very positive personal moment in which I find myself.
The ‘OXIDE’ series is made up of a set of several hand-pulled prints using the traditional ‘Collagraph’ additive stamping technique on a printmaking
paper which is attached (acid free) to a 88 x 119 cm ‘conservation museum’ mat (also acid free).
Print run of six copies of each plate. On top of the edition there exist two different 'Trial proofs' (with different paper, size and colours) and one Artist's proof of 'Oxide II'
All the copies of the edition are signed, numbered and dated. The A.P and the two Trial Proofs are also signed, marked as proofs and dated.
This edition began in October 2020 and finished being printed on June 2021. It was hand-pulled printed at the Printmaking studio of Casa de Velazquez in Madrid, Spain.
